Where is Our Money?
According to Edwin P. Chase, we spent it! I came across this very telling article that Mr. Chase wrote for an Iowa newspaper back in 1933. It went on to be picked up and published in papers around the country and won a Pulitzer Prize. It is his take on the economic woes of the Great Depression. He could have written it for today.
My favorite part is this: “The only way back to solid ground and to a degree of prosperity and well-being commensurate with common sense and economic soundness will be by the application of thrift and hard work and the balancing of the budget of every individual.”
Here we all are, thinking that the sky is falling because of our economic crisis and the very same issues were being dealt with almost 100 years ago. With the very same solution! It seems the more things change…the more they stay the same.
